Proceeds from the eleventh annual Big Night will support the Rotary Club of Davis' Child Abuse Prevention Program, which targets primary prevention of child abuse and focuses on public education and awareness.

In 1999 the Rotary Club of Davis began a program to reduce the incidence of child abuse locally, nationally and internationally. That program, Child Abuse Prevention Program (CAPP), was unanimously adopted as our club's program for the new millennia.

Since that time we have embarked on a mission that seeks to inform the public of the tragedy of child abuse and to assist in the education process. To that end, the club has presented this program to more than 30 Rotary Clubs, made presentations to District 5160 conferences on 3 different occasions.  The program was one of thirteen selected from 2,500 programs for presentation at the 2003 Rotary Zone conference. This conference was a gathering of District Governors and Rotary International officials for training and selection of ideas to take home and implement.  Our club encouraged the establishment of a Yolo County Crisis Nursery and has supported the Nursery financially and with hands-on-labor since its inception.  The club also encouraged the establishment of a Yolo County Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center (MDIC) and provided funding for that program.  The program provided funding for parenting classes, First Responder training, Incest Survivor's annual conference in Davis.  We introduced Child Abuse Prevention as a part of District 5160's Rotary Family Program and assumed responsibility for its implementation.  Additionally, we have contacted more than 200 Rotary clubs around the world and have provided three Rotary Clubs in Thailand with a parenting program for conversion to Thai.  Finally, we have distributed more than 3,000 "You Don't Have To Let Your Baby Cry" CDs to new mothers, and provided Shaken Baby Syndrome training dolls to several organizations and to hospitals.

Big Night is the primary fund-raiser for CAPP and has generated approximately $200,000 in net proceeds to fight child abuse over the past ten years. Thank you for being a part of Big Night 2011!
