PRESS RELEASE

August 19, 2015

CARE BAGS DONATED FOR THE NEEDY

The members of the Rotary Club of Davis (noon) spent a portion of their meeting on Monday filling “Care” bags for the needy.  One hundred bags were filled with items such as shampoo, tooth past and brushes, deodorant, combs, razors, socks, tablet and pens, water nutrition bars, and so on.  The items were placed in a one gallon Care bag with a note placed inside each bag written “The members of the Rotary Club of Davis-noon care about you.”

The 2015-16 Club President, Judy Wolf, organized this activity to provide for the needy and to fulfill Rotary’s commitment to serve the community.  “It was a great feeling to participate in a hands-on project that would help so many in our community,” Wolf said.  Of the one-hundred Care bags assembled, fifty were delivered to the Davis Community Church. They were presented to Lisa Nelson, who is the Minister of Hospitality and Facilities for the church.  The Church has been operating support programs, including serving lunch to those in need, and to provide emergency basic care products as well.  She expressed gratitude for the donation, and said that the Care packets “will be put to good use.” The remaining fifty Care bags were delivered to Grace-in-Action.  Mary Lou Rossetto, director, indicated that “Grace-in-Action is uniquely positioned to serve the most vulnerable individuals in Yolo County by bridging the gap between the community of givers and local agency programs.”

The Rotary members sincerely hope that these contributions will help in the success of these programs.
